The Christmas With a Missing Stocking

⏱ 13 min · 👶 from age 3

On Christmas Eve at the North Pole there is a very important tradition. For every child in the world, a soft little stocking is prepared, to be hung by the corner of the fireplace and filled by Santa with little surprises. In her great wool basket, the elf Boucle counts them one by one: nine hundred and ninety-eight, nine hundred and ninety-nine, one thousand! But suddenly, counting again, she turns pale: there are only nine hundred and ninety-nine. One is missing! Somewhere, there is a child who will have no stocking by their fireplace. So the whole workshop starts hunting for the thousandth: under the workbench, behind the stove, in the Great Sack, even in the pot of hot chocolate. Old Brindille, meanwhile, tells how back in the year one thousand they hung up mittens, or boots, or even a saucepan (one child got a good soup as a present that way!). But the little stocking is nowhere to be found. By searching all together, the elves slowly understand something far bigger than the lost stocking: what makes Christmas magical is not an object, even the most precious one. It is being all together, taking trouble for one another, and wishing with all your heart that not a single child be forgotten. This story gently helps your child put little worries in perspective and look to what matters most. The joy of Christmas, deep down, does not hang on a stocking, but on all the tenderness and warmth that fill the house when everyone is together. A lovely message, slipped softly into a little ear. And when the thousandth stocking finally turns up, hidden in the most unexpected spot in the world, everyone bursts out laughing with relief, and peace returns at once to the glowing workshop. The story then ends gently, in the warmth of a Christmas found again and shared, right in time to snuggle up and close your eyes. No one argues and no one gets cross about the missing stocking; the elves search together, help one another, and Brindille lightens the mood with his tales of the year one thousand. Turning a little stress into a joyful adventure to share is the whole spirit of Tilibou bedtime stories. And all the while, the big pot of chocolate steams gently by the fire. A screen-free Christmas story for toddlers from age 2, lovely to share at bedtime, in the car, or at nap time. As always with Tilibou, the ending stays soft and quiet, without music, so your child can drift toward sleep without anyone being startled awake. All the Tilibou bedtime stories at
