The Child Who Couldn't Wait
In the workshop's Evening Parlour, sitting on the mantelpiece beside the Little Bell, there is a slightly magic snow globe. When you shake it very gently, it doesn't show a little plastic village: it shows a real child of the world, somewhere, going about their life. That is how Santa keeps a tender eye on the children, all through the month before Christmas. Tonight, the snow globe shows Pim a little boy named Nino. He's pacing round and round his bedroom, taking the calendar off the wall, counting the days, hanging it back up, sighing, starting over. «Three more days until Christmas? That's too long! Waiting is the worst, waiting is no fun at all!» And he flops onto his bed in a sulk. Poor Nino is in such a hurry that he forgets to enjoy the days that are left. So, very gently, the story shows Nino, and your child, a lovely secret: it is the waiting itself that makes the gift so precious. Every day waited through, every candle lit, every little preparation makes the joy grow bigger inside. And what if, instead of enduring the wait, we made a game of it? Together, they invent a «calendar of waiting», to savour, one by one, each day that brings the big day closer. This story speaks with great tenderness of something truly hard when you are small: waiting, taking your turn, letting time make its way. It helps your child gently tame that burning impatience, and understand that happiness, like a lovely gift, is prepared and savoured, and is all the greater when it finally arrives. And when Nino at last falls asleep, reconciled with the passing of time, the night grows calm, soft and full of lovely promises. The snow globe rests quietly on the mantelpiece, the flakes dancing inside it in slow motion, and the story ends gently, perfect to keep company with your little one who, too, is patiently waiting for their own big day. No one tells Nino his impatience is a tantrum, and no one scolds him for finding the wait too long. Instead, they help him turn that waiting into a little pleasure each day: welcoming a difficult feeling and turning it into something sweet is the whole spirit of Tilibou bedtime stories.
