The Big Blue Gate

⏱ 17 min · 👶 from age 2

That morning, something very, very important is happening. On the table, a bowl of cereal. On the chair, a brand-new little backpack, a bit too big, holding a tissue, a water bottle and a small piece of paper with a sun drawn on it. Because today, for little Lila, is her very first day of school. And in front of the big blue gate, her heart gives little hops: she'd much rather stay home, with Mum. «Home will still be here tonight, it isn't going anywhere,» Mum whispers gently. «And this morning, someone is waiting for you: a whole school, with a teacher, friends, and a coat hook all your own, with your sun drawing on it.» So, hand in hand, quietly singing the morning song, Lila steps through the big blue gate, tummy a little tight. On the other side, there is Miss Lou, all smiles, a hook with her name on it, games, and soon a little owl cuddly in the reading corner, Doudou-Hibou, who watches over things gently. Little by little, the morning knot loosens, and Lila discovers that you can feel good, even far from home, even when Mum isn't right beside you. This story gently accompanies one of the biggest moments for little ones: the first separation, the first day of school or nursery. It reassures your child with one very simple, essential idea: Mum always comes back, school is just a moment in between, and you can be well looked after there and even have a lovely time. And when, at day's end, Mum finally reappears at the big blue gate, Lila understands that the day has passed and everything turned out fine. The story then settles gently down, reassuring and warm, right in time to snuggle up and close your eyes, ready for a new morning. Mum never tells Lila that her fear is silly, and she doesn't force her either. She names what reassures, she sings the song, she promises to come back, and she keeps her promise: taking a little one's big emotion seriously, without brushing it aside, is the whole spirit of Tilibou bedtime stories. And on the coat rack, Lila's little sun shines all day long, waiting for her return. A gentle, screen-free school story for toddlers from age 2, perfect for easing back-to-school nerves, lovely to share at bedtime, in the car, or at nap time. As always with Tilibou, the ending stays soft and quiet, without music, so your child can drift toward sleep without anyone being startled awake. All the Tilibou bedtime stories at
